My view on the “use to be great Arsenal”

It’s that time of the year again when all Arsenal fans voice their frustrations at the manager, board, or just any person remotely linked with Arsenal’s “wise” business men, and this year has been no different.
The last season ended brightly for the Gunners with an unbeaten run that saw us end up above Tottenham to grab that valuable 4th spot and a chance to get in the Champions League and with a reported 70 – 100 million pound kitty to spend in the transfer window all Gunners fans quickly got excited with Arsenal being linked with every high profile player, but that excitement has turned into frustration and just plain anger as apart from the free transfer of Yaya Sanogo AFC hasn’t managed to sign anyone.

Arsenal have gone from title contenders and title winners to no major big threat and a team that might just end up in the top 4 in a matter of 10 years. The man that brough so much success to Highbury is the same man that now seemingly doesn’t know what he is doing, Arsenal Football Club is slowly becoming the laughing stock of all English clubs and rightly so, we have been taken from title contenders to being content with mediocrity in no more than 10 years.

Our transfer policy is one that is questionable to say the least. We made it very clear at the end of the last season that we are in a financial position where we can compete with the richest clubs in Europe and yet we still await the big signings to be announced on the Arsenal website. Wenger has come out and tried to explain that all is not so easy and that it’s difficult so sign players who are better than what we currently have, or who can improve our squad. Unfortunately Wenger that’s a pretty shitty excuse, Tottenham aren’t in the Champions League, they have nowhere near the successful history we have and yet they have gone out and signed some pretty good players early on in the window and spent +-60 million pounds and look to add even more to their squad.
The window is now slowly but surely coming to a close and all teams are now reluctant to let their players leave because of the fact that they have made preparations for the season with those players in mind. That means that it’s just going to be near impossible to sign ANY player of the same quality that was promised at the start of the window and even after the first game of the season we look to only have an outside chance of making the top 4.

Its no wonder no player wants to sign for us at the moment, we are miles away from being title contenders or even top 4 contenders, and that’s an assessment after the first game of the season. Arsenal are dire need of a shakeup at the club, in what ever way that might come its clear for all to see that all is not well at the club.

Changes at the club is needed, we can no longer just sit back and watch how we struggle to win games on our home ground, struggle to get into the top 4, struggle to keep hold of our best players, struggle to attract the best players and each year fail to put a trophy in a dust gathering trophy cabinet. I’m a proud Arsenal fan and always will be, but I’m afraid of where we will end up if thing do continue in the manner that it has been for the last couple of years.

All we can do as Gooners is just support the team, and just hope that Wenger or the board take the initiative to turn the club back into a title contending team, and return us to former glory.
